Pulling herself up by her bootstraps,, using oils and herbs and whatever special ingredients she could purchase from her favorite health food store, the journey of this business began. Soap is a human necessity which cannot be purchased with food stamps, thus everyone, no matter what their financial status, has to put it in their budget. It is a consumable with heavy turnover and a demand for it would remain even in the odd case of an EMP strike which would level any digitally-based business. It can be bartered for other life essentials, so simple is the reasoning for the business concept which emerged from the mind of the international relations student who foresees the possibility of economic instability in the supply chains. May Allah guide us and ignite our hearts with love to take care of ourselves, our family members and our community even if the nation’s leadership falls apart.
Our Company
Bamba’s Blended and Blessed began in 2024 as a home-based business project designed to give a mother the opportunity to build a family business. Originally called Healing Hearts and Homes in Harlem then Blended and Blessed, the founder’s teacher inspired her to promote the name of the sheikh which she adopted, so she put it out front as a spearheading healing force for the world. Each batch of soap is blended while singing praise to the Most High, Allah. Also, culturally we are a blessed blend of American and Caribbean with Southern roots and Jamaican roots. Each of those branches are made of complex branches which include African, European, Native American, and Indian connections. As DNA tests show, we are all blended with roots from many different sources. Grateful and respectful of the complexity of our human origins, we are Blended and Blessed. In service to the servant who devoted himself to continuing the work of the world’s Messenger (peace be upon them), we are Bamba’s Blended and Blessed.
Each plant or seed which is planted is placed in the name of the Most High, Allah. The inspiration for planting seeds and growing plants comes from the EcoPeace Project which was begun by Sheikh Aly Ndaw, a student of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba, blessings be upon him. Their Initiatory Way to Peace curriculum includes working with nature for the benefit of the student nurturing their respect for their Creator and what is provided. The first bar of soap which was created for Bamba’s Blended and Blessed incorporated moringa powder from the EcoPeace Pout farm.
The local production of natural skin products seeks to assist clients to access natural products as opposed to skin products which are heavily laden with chemicals that contribute to cancers, eczema, and other conditions. Making our contribution to shield our customers from cancer-causing chemicals is a personal mission after losing close family members to cancer. The ingredients on our soap labels are simple yet effective. Some of our friends and family with sensitive skin issues (from eczema to acne) inspired us to make soaps that would help them and others like them. As it is a family business some of our ingredients are inspired by and named for family and friends of the family. We use internet resources including soap calculators to carefully construct our own recipes. We do learn from what others have successfully done and create our recipes based on what ingredients we want to use which may not be exactly like what others used. We rely on different applications for soap makers to make sure that the right balance is created for the saponification process to take place. Different oils have different properties, so some oils can be substituted while others may need additional oils to compensate for what is missing in a substitute. In a special recipe we may also use herbal tea in place of plain water. We use essential oils of our choice, which depends upon who the soap was constructed to serve. This is entirely our choice, or the choice of the customer in the case of a custom order, and it does not affect the recipe.
